Catechesis on Original Sin and Redemption

>> Saturday, January 23, 2010

On Friday, January 22, the youth from Amigos de Jesus youth group met in the Hope Room at Annunciation Catholic Church for the third in a four part series based on Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body.

This third session dealt specifically with the story of original sin in the book of Genesis and the redemption accomplished through Jesus Christ. This catechesis and the two that preceded it were laying the ground work for the discussion on moral issues facing youth in contemporary culture.

After presenting the youth with the Church's teaching on original sin, its effects and the story of redemption - according to the theology of Pope John Paul II - the youth broke up into three groups and discussed possible responses to a hypothetical moral issue. The topics dealt specifically with sex outside of marriage, with the use of artificial contraception, and the morality of homosexual acts.

After the small group discussions, the youth discussed the topics in the larger group setting. It was a very good discussion and really seemed to help the youth bring different view points into the open. Next week will be the fourth and final session on this topic, during which the Catholic Church's teaching on these key issues will be discussed and explored. Bring your questions!

The youth group welcomed several newcomers this week and looks forward to seeing them as regular members in the future.

On Saturday, January 23, a number of the youth from Amigos de Jesus were present to help with the activities at the Confirmation year II classes. After Mass, the youth and Brothers Joseph and Larry went to Subway for a bit to eat.

Thanks so much to all the youth who continue to participate, to serve, and to be strong witnesses of their Catholic faith. The world needs your light!

Below is a slideshow presentation of images from Friday and Saturday evenings. As always, be sure to check our Facebook page for more photos, news on upcoming events, and group discussions.

God bless you!

Br. Joseph
