A Memorable Friday Evening

>> Sunday, June 6, 2010

It was hot and unusually humid at Annunciation Church on Friday, June 4. That, however, did not stop the Amigos de Jesus youth group from meeting for its regular session. All told about 20 youth were present. It is wonderful to see so many of the same people returning and the commitment you have to both your youth group and growth in your Catholic faith.

The session, all of which took place in the courtyard next to the parish office, began with the recitation of the Rosary. Alicia, Kim, Miguel, Arlene, and Br. Joseph led the mysteries. A few pigeons even seemed to stop their cooing and pay attend to the prayers.

Afterward, the youth gathered for a team-building exercise demonstrating the importance of community and the need to rely on one another as a support to our faith and Catholic identity. Youth were instructed to crawl blind-folded through a maze in the grass. Their only guide was the person in front of them.

Afterward, the group discussed the activity, its meaning, and its implications for day to day life.

On Saturday, many members of the youth group met for a football barbecue. The group played touch-hand-touch football at Cole Middle School from 11 am to 2 pm and then returned to the parish to cook hamburgers and hot dogs. Thanks so much to all of the youth who participated, brought food, and made it such a wonderful time.

The next session of the youth group will be this Friday, June 11 at 5:45 pm. We hope to see you all there. God bless!

Br. Joseph
