Lost Sheep & Face Cake

>> Saturday, September 11, 2010

It wasn't all fun and cake in the face on Friday evening's Amigos de Jesus session. There was some time devoted to our faith as well. The youth group met at its regular time outside the Hope Room at Annunciation Church. The session kicked off with the recitation of the Rosary, in English and Spanish. Following, the youth broke up into their two respective detachments for group work. Br. Joseph's group looked at Sunday's Gospel in which Jesus, accused of eating with “sinners and tax collectors,” tells the story of the good shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to go in search of the one that was lost. There was some very deep and personal sharing at this session which really touched the hearts of everyone present.

The groups rejoined at about 7:15 pm for the special September 10 event. No, it wasn't Ground Hog Day nor International Speak Like a Pirate Day, it was Iliana's birthday. After a beautiful rendition of the classic tune, “Happy Birthday” (led by soprano Br. Joseph), Iliana was treated to a feast of white-iced cup cakes courtesy of her parents. The Capri-Sun and Sodas were good too.

After taking a few moments to enjoy the fun, Iliana received the traditional birthday “cupcake in the face.” Despite all of Br. Joseph's courageous attempts to protect her from the crazed, cupcake-wielding Alejandra, her black hair was soon streaked with sugary white streaks!

It was a great session, despite the mess, and the youth had the opportunity to welcome a couple of new faces to the group.

Congratulations to Veronica who celebrated her quincennera on Sunday, September 11.

Additional thanks to Kim, Robert, Kerin, Francisco, Antonio, and Jose for planning and leading the activities for the Confirmation classes on Saturday evening. The youth really enjoyed it. Well, most of them did anyway.

Please remember that next Saturday will be our first afternoon of door-to-door evangelization. Please let us know if you are planning on joining us. We really need to know in advance for planning purposes. God's peace my brothers and sisters.

Br. Joseph
