Adoration & Confession

The Amigos de Jesus youth group began its Friday session in the Church for their monthly holy hour of prayer and penance before the Blessed Sacrament. As part of the youth group’s new curriculum, a catechetical theme is chosen as the focus of all the sessions in a particular month. At the end of the month, the youth take the fruits of their prayer, reflection, learning, and discussion before Jesus.

Fr. Michael Suchnicki, O.F.M.Cap. began the holy hour with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 6:00 p.m. During exposition the youth group sang the Latin hymn, O Salutaris Hostia, which they had been practicing during the last month. To start the hour of adoration, Br. Joseph read the the story of the calling of Samuel from the Old Testament. He reflected on the ways that God calls us in life and how we, as his children, should respond wholeheartedly.

Fr. Francisco and Fr. Michael were both on hand during the holy hour so that the youth could receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession). During the holy hour, the youth prayed the Rosary, reflecting on the sorrowful mysteries in the life of Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The holy hour concluded with Eucharistic Benediction at 7:00 p.m. The youth group reconvened in the Hope Room for the remainder of the session. Alejandra and Br. Joseph continued to speak about the topic of vocations and there was a large group discussion relating to this and other topics. The youth also discussed a possible new ministry of bringing food from Twin Parishes to St. Martin’s Retirement community. A number of the youth were interested and Jeremy will set up a date when they can meet with the community coordinator.

The session concluded with prayer and brownies at 8:00 p.m. It was followed by a meeting of the youth leaders which ran until about 9:00 p.m. Thanks to Kim and Ricky for volunteering to help Br. Anthony in his visitation ministry to the sick and homebound.

God's peace,
Br. Joseph
