Called in the Cafeteria

The Amigos de Jesus youth group continued its theme of vocation on Friday evening, January 14. Due to a prayer vigil for immigration reform, the youth met in the cafeteria at Annunciation School. The session began with a review of last week's discussion before moving into Lectio Divina.

Br. Joseph read the call of Nathaniel from the Gospel of Matthew and asked the youth to reflect on how God might be calling in them in their lives and in their individual situations to, "come and follow me." Many of the youth shared how the reading touched them and the ways that they felt they needed to respond.

Afterward, the youth broke up into smaller discussion groups for a task focusing on a fundamental question: In one word, what do I desire in life? It is an important question because knowing what we truly want can help to identify the ways of getting there and the obstacles to that goal. Some of the answers were in turn shared in the larger group.

The session ended with brownies at 8:00 pm. Following the session most of the youth spent time praying in front of the Blessed Sacrament at the vigil for immigration reform.

On Sunday evening, Jan 16, a number of the youth attended Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Archbishop Charles Chaput, O.F.M.Cap. Before beginning his homily, the Archbishop asked the members of the Annunciation youth group to stand, thanked them for coming, and exhorted them to become saints. Following the Mass, the youth returned to Annunciation for ice cream.

This coming Friday, Jan 21, the group will begin ten minutes earlier and will start in the Church with Adoration and Confession. Following, there will be a celebration with food and sharing. Br. Anthony is also back and will be doing the visitation ministry on Saturday. I hope some of you can make it.
