ADJ Recap - Blindfolds, Burdens, and True Peace
>> Tuesday, July 5, 2011
The Amigos de Jesus youth group met for its regular session on Friday, July 1 in the Hope Room. Although, due to the extreme heat, much of the session actually took place outside in the courtyard. It was a large session, with 26 people participating.
The session began with an opening prayer at 7:00 pm. Br. Joseph, recalling that this day was the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart, spoke on the meaning of symbols used in artistic depictions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In particular, the fire symbolized the consuming love of God for his creatures, while the wound recalled the ultimate sacrifice which this love paid in order to save humanity from sin.
Following prayer, the youth headed to the courtyard for a couple of rounds of tag. That's right, tag! To make things more interesting, however, the participants were blind-folded.
The youth then broke up into small groups with assigned leaders in order to pray Lectio Divina with the coming Sunday's Gospel. As a part of the process, the youth reflected on how Jesus was speaking through this Scripture to their individual situations, and their particular doubts, sufferings, and crisis.
Back in the large group, individual youth shared their experiences from the small groups about how Jesus given them a Word for their life that evening. Alejandra and Br. Joseph made several announcements rgarding the upcoming Steubenville of the Rockies Youth Conference, the Bible Camp, and the Kairos Retreat. Three youth ended the session with prayer at 9:00 pm. There will be no regular session next Friday due to the youth retreat. The next regular session will be Friday, July 15 at 7 p.m.
