Mass at the Cathedral

On Sunday, January 17, youth from Amigos de Jesus attended the evening Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The Mass, celebrated by Archbishop Charles Chaput, O.F.M.Cap., was very crowded, but the youth managed to find seats up front by breaking into two smaller groups.

For many of the youth, it was the first time they had participated in a liturgy at the cathedral church of the Archdiocese. All agreed that it was a powerful and moving experience. Some of the youth commented on the beautiful architecture of the cathedral; others were deeply moved by the music; while still others enjoyed the Archbishop's homily.

Commenting on the Gospel reading in which Jesus changes water into wine at the wedding feast at Cana, Archbishop Chaput reminded the people that God's love for us was similar to that of a husband for his bride. He also emphasized the important role the Blessed Virgin Mary should have in each of our lives, that she intercedes on our behalf even as she interceded for the young couple who had run out of wine.

As the youth were leaving Mass, they had the opportunity of meeting the Archbishop who thanked them for coming and insisted on knowing each one of their names.

Following the Mass, the youth returned to the parish center at Annunciation where they had ice cream cones and sundaes. The consensus was unanimous - all were eager to attend Mass at the cathedral again sometime in the near future.
