To Love as Jesus Loves

>> Sunday, May 2, 2010

Amigos de Jesus closed out the month of April with its regular session in the Hope Room at Annunciation Church. The meeting opened with the recitation of the Rosary followed by a brief explanation of the importance of this Marian form of prayer.

Alejandra next led the group in an "icebreaker" sing-song-hand-motion-semi-dance that got the heart rate going. Fortunately, no one was hurt during the execution of this game.

Br. Joseph and Alejandra next read the English and Spanish text of Sunday's Gospel in which Jesus gives his disciples a new commandment, "Love one another as I have loved you." Br. Joseph spoke on the different stages of the Christian life and noted that, before we can even begin to speak of loving as Jesus loves, we must first be sure that we have made the basic commitment to the Christian life. This is necessary just to be in a relationship with God. The terms of this basic commitment is spelled out in the Ten Commandments.

The youth reflected a bit on this basic commitment and what it meant in practical terms. Afterward, Alejandra broke the youth into two groups and led them through a "joined-arms" activity in which cooperation was necessary in order to help each team stand and move on as a whole. Everyone seemed to enjoy this icebreaker as well, except for the kid who broke his leg (just kidding).

The session ended with several members of the youth group sharing some personal experiences of the ways in which God has been working in their lives. The stories were very powerful and appreciated by all.

There was a very large turnout for this session and the group welcomed a few new members and welcomed back a few members who had not been present in recent weeks.  A slideshow presentation of images from the evening are posted below. Thanks to everyone who attended!

IMPORTANT: This Wednesday, is Cinco de Mayo, and the youth group will have its own "pot luck" dinner. It will start at 6:00 pm and end around 8:00 pm. It will be a good time to share food, laughter, music, and fun. If each person can bring enough to feed six or seven people, we will have plenty of food.
