Way of the Cross a Powerful Experience

>> Sunday, March 28, 2010

The youth from Amigos de Jesus played host to a visting youth group on Friday, March 26. The "Franciscan Mystery Players" are a youth group from St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Aurora, CO. who travel around the Archdiocese performing a multi-media rendition of the "Way of the Cross" during Lent.

Many thanks to Francisco, Antonio, Iliana, Kim, Aide, Leslie, and Robert for showing up early to help setup the stage and prepare the grilled cheese and tomato soup for the visiting youth. In total, the youth prepared over 40 sandwiches.

After a meal in the Activity Center, the two youth groups exchanged introductions and greetings and the Francican Mystery Players spoke about the different characters they would be playing during the Way of the Cross. By 7:30 pm, the youth had taken their seats in the middle pews at Annunciation Church. The Church was crowded and very dark, except for the stage erected in front of the sanctuary which was lit with a single violet light.

The Amigos de Jesus found the Way of the Cross to be a very powerful and touching experience. Many of the youth commented that the re-enacted meditation on the Passion and death of Jesus Christ brought them to tears. The night ended as the two youth groups prayed with the rest of the parish beneath the erected Cross, joining hands and asking for God's help and blessings.

Several members of the youth group also helped teach and lead activities for the Confirmation classes on Saturday evening, in addition to serving as ushers and greeters at the youth Mass that followed. Of note, Kim gave a very beautiful and moving testimony on her own conversion and the important role the youth group and her family has played in helping her to follow Christ more closely.

Thanks to all the youth who continue to participate in the youth group and take such an active role in the life of the Church. The greatest gift that you can give to the world is your own commitment to personal holiness in following the footsteps of Christ. God's peace!
